Scripture Reference: 1 Samuel 17:24-27, 41-49
The story of David and Goliath is often told as an example of how we should “slay the giants in our life.” But that makes US the hero of the story. King David is picturing US, but rather the Savior that would come and finally be our champion.
Sermon Points:
The Apostle Paul writes “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Phil. 3:8). Does that sound like religious hyperbole? It’s been said that “the center, the jewel in the crown of Christianity is not just an idea, a system or a thing; it is not even’the gospel’ as such. It is Jesus Christ.”

Scripture Reference: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
As Samuel comes to anoint the new king of Israel, he is surprised by God’s choice of David. This initial meeting foreshadows how God will work in and through David. God is deeply concerned with people’s hearts AND will bring salvation by way of a humble and righteous king.
