David’s relationship Jonathan gives a deep and powerful picture of the King’s intention with his people, which is not just to be their King…but to be their friend. In David and Jonathan, we see Jesus’ intimate friendship with his people.
Sermon Points:
The Apostle Paul writes “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Phil. 3:8). Does that sound like religious hyperbole? It’s been said that “the center, the jewel in the crown of Christianity is not just an idea, a system or a thing; it is not even’the gospel’ as such. It is Jesus Christ.”

The story of David and Goliath is often told as an example of how we should “slay the giants in our life.” But that makes US the hero of the story. King David is picturing US, but rather the Savior that would come and finally be our champion.
