Heaven & Earth: A Christian Cosmology | Les Newsom

Adult Sunday School: Death & Dying

In 2017, an iPhone app developer released an app called “WeCroak.” The idea was simple: five times a day your phone will remind you that you’re going to die. Morbid? Probably. Helpful? Weirdly yes. Turns out, users reported a strange perspective shift that made them less irritable about little things and more attendant to little joys in life. Fortunately, Christians don’t need an app to have hope in the face of death. But when the rubber meets the road, we often treat it like a taboo that never gets talked about until it’s too late. This summer we’re going to tackle this topic head on in the hopes of getting help not only for our own eventual deaths, but also some practical advice for those giving care to declining loved ones.

Meets in the sanctuary every Sunday at 9:45am. Taught by Dr. Sumner Abraham & Les Newsom

A Restful Church | Brian Sorgenfrei

Scripture Reference: Matthew 11:27-12:14

If we are going to be the kind of church that looks and feels like Jesus, then there should be something about our body that is restful. A body of Christ removes burdens rather than heaps on burdens and shame. Jesus interaction with Pharisees on the Sabbath presses home this point, in the person of Jesus, people finally find true Sabbath rest. The One who says “come to me and you will find rest” should shape the way Christ Pres functions with each other and in Oxford.

Sermon Points:

  • Burdening Restlessness
  • Life Giving Rest
  • Restful Church

Every church has a concept that “centers” their activities and gives a sense of purpose and mission for their members. This week we look into the power of the Gospel to be the power behind everything your church does.
